At every session children have the opportunity for free play, when they are able to help themselves from the vast range of high quality teaching and play materials.
Each session has at least one structured or adult-led activity aimed to promote learning and development in a fun and interesting way. We use quality resources and provide activities that are of value to the children, designed to provide them with as near to real life experiences as possible. We believe children need extensive opportunities for exploring real, concrete objects before they can come to understand abstract ideas and symbols such as numbers and letters. However, Plato’s curriculum is consistent with the aims set out by the government’s framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
At the beginning of each week a list of the planned activities is displayed in the nursery for parents (and visitors) to know the intended curriculum and activities for that week.
Plato’s delivers the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through two main types of activities; these are free play and structured activities. During free play children select activities and resources from a choice of educational equipment including creative materials, books, puzzles, constructional toys and imaginative play equipment. It is at these times that children’s individual learning priorities are more easily provided for and monitored. In structured activities the aims and objectives are clearly identified during the planning stage and are designed to meet specific outcomes of value to all the children. The emphasis throughout the nursery is on learning through play within a relaxed environment.

We try to include at least one cooking activity every half term, choosing a balance of sweet and savoury recipes. Children are provided with their own equipment and ingredients, so that any food brought home will only have been handled by your own child!
Afternoon sessions include a foreign language activity, where children are taught French through songs, games and rhymes. All of our activities are planned in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
